Instructional Activity: “The Yellow Pages”Looking at phone books

Target Population: Students with Emotional Behavioral Disabilities using a general education curriculum in the vocational area. The activity can be adapted to all ages and ability levels.

Instructional Area/Curricular Area: Vocational, Occupational, Career Exploration

Minnesota Graduation Standards Area: Physical Education and Lifetime Fitness (area #8), Occupational Experience.

The IEP instructional areas that are integrated within the activity are:

  • Jobs and Job Training
  • Recreation and Leisure
  • Communication
  • Academic Performance

The skills that are addressed and align with the Minnesota Graduation Standards are:

  • Read, Listen and View- (Primary to High Standards, Interpretation and Evaluation/Reading, Listening & Viewing Complex Information).
  • Write and Speak- (Primary to High Standards, Writing/Academic Writing).
  • Physical Education and Lifetime Fitness- (Primary to high Standards, Career Exploration/Occupational Experience).
  • Economics and Business- (Primary to High Standards, Informed Consumerism/Personal & Family Resource Management).

Duration of Instructional Activity: Depending upon the student ability level and interest, time and frequency of instruction, this can be a 1 hour session or a lesson plan that spans over a period of several weeks.
