Objectives to Study
- Chocolate Chip Cookie Analysis
Recommended Lessons
Apply concepts of chance and data analysis to evaluate information and solve problems in a familiar context. A student shall demonstrate understanding of how to find range, mean, and median simple concepts of
likelihood including impossible, unlikely, equal chance, likely, certain, fair and unfair, and information displayed in graphs, tables, and charts. Students will answer questions by collecting organizing data,
representing data, and communicating results, conduct experiments involving
uncertainty including listing possible cut comes, tally, record, and explain results, and use results to predict future outcomes, describe patterns, trends, or relationships in data displayed and represent data using t least two graphic forms.
Task
- Chocolate Chip Cookie Analysis - Students investigate the number of chocolate chips in various brands of cookies. They chart their data and identify mean, median and range. They explain their work
and make a recommendation as to which cookie brand has the most chocolate chips.
Students also observe traffic patterns, collect data, and communicate findings. Student predict how often something will occur, test their predictions record the results compare results to predictions and explain the likelihood of similar results happening in repeating tests.
