Recommended Lessons:
In dance, a student shall demonstrate basic movements in musical or rhythmic contexts, respond to selected assignments and problems, and create sequences of movement to communicate and original story or
experience; in visual art, use appropriate tools and processes of at least three different media to communicate ideas, use elements of visual art to communiqué ideas ad identify works and styles of art
belonging to different culture and times, in music, sing in a group, sing a varied repertoire of songs, play simple rhythms and melodies on classroom instruments, improvise simple rhythms and melodies, and
use a system to read basic music notation and; in theater, use movement, sound and language to create images, express emotions and imitate animals, objects, or shapes and use elements or environment,
costumes, and props to communicate story and character.
Task
- A. Cultural Dance - As a class choose and listen to a traditional African folk song, work in groups of two or three and create hand and arm motions to the music, practice hand and arm motions to mastery, stand
and create foot and leg movements to coordinate with hand and arm motion, work in small groups to create an original story, work with group to create a storyboard that tells your story and using the storyboard,
create a dance that tells your story.

- Art Museum - Students will find definitions for the words, line, shape, color, and texture and write them down, using definitions in working with your teacher to learn more about line, shape, texture and color
show understanding of art elements by completing following; use pencils to create a line drawing with border and different kinds of lines, the middle of the paper draw a picture using same kinds of line from
border, make a shape picture using pipe cleaners. Glue, on construction paper, bend pipe cleaner into shapes, and glue shapes onto your paper, finish by drawing shapes onto your picture suing crayon, pencils and
markers, choose two colors of tempera paint, mix together and discuss results, use mixed color to paint an animal you would like as a pet, use tag board, construction paper and cloth and cut out different shapes
and glue on piece of paper, cover with another piece of paper and rub crayons or charcoal over paper.
- Suggested Student Products
- “Elements of art” written definitions, line drawings, shape pictures, animal picture, texture ‘imprint’ art, nine pictures reflecting three cultures and how they changed over time.
- Animal Charades – Student picks an excerpt or part of a book or story, from which he will choose an animal or object and create a mask or costume that depicts the animal or object, using mask and/or costume, and
other props student will act out the excerpt from the book or story for the class which will guess what animal it is, what it does, what it would say, etc..
- Suggested Student Products
- Costume and/or mask of animal or object, performance using these props based on story excerpt.
