Purpose of Lesson / Objective:
- To have the students understand the rules of Frisbee golf and be able to play a game with a group of friends or peers.
Materials / Equipment / Environment:
- Frisbees (specific for the Frisbee golf game)
- proper clothing and footwear
- local/community Frisbee Golf Course
Group Size: 4-8
Time Required: 60 minutes/flexible
Lesson Procedure:
- Have the students locate the map of the Frisbee golf course.
- Have the students spilt into two or three groups with adult supervision.
- Have the students partnered together, to keep track of each other within the group.
- Have the students locate the start of the course for the first hole.
- Have the students practice throwing from the start- using correct form.
- Locate a safe place for the group to stand while someone is taking their turn.
- Have the students watch their peers during the game.
- Have the students take turn and stay in proper turn-taking sequence throughout the game.
- Have the students watch their Frisbee as they throw it towards the target.
- Have the student’s count how many times it takes them to get the Frisbee to the target and in the cage (many students need assistance).
- Have the students stay within the group during the course of the game.
- Have the students properly and safely put their equipment away before leaving the site.
- Have the students make sure their partner is safely back to the vehicle to leave the site.
Carry Over / Related Activities:
- Learn about the different type of Frisbees and when to use each one.
- Scoring and rules of Frisbee Golf and map reading skills. Orienteering Games.
- Go on the internet to find other Frisbee Golf Courses in student’s area.
Supporting Activities / Possible Adaptations:
- Lighter/softer Frisbees and shorter distances between the start and the target.
- Pair a more skilled peer with a less skilled peer.
Strategies for Participation:
- Variety of games and activities to help develop their Frisbee throwing skills and awards for the longest/shortest throw etc. Contests or Tournaments.
Student Reaction / Evaluation:
- “Play of the Day”, Record the # of throws it takes them to get the Frisbee into the
target (cage), Record how much assistance is needed and have the students record their personal opinion of the game that day.
Lesson Support:
- Each student will be at various ability levels it is important that the instructor adapts to students individual needs.
- Learn about the different types of Frisbees.
- Practice throwing various Frisbees at targets for distance.
- Concepts to be talked about and modeled: sportsmanship, positive social interactions, strategic planning, self-confidence and self-esteem
